My Teaching Philosophy
community
Community is at the fore of my art practice, as well as my teaching practice. I strive to create an environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and supported. I believe that education thrives in environments where students can share diverse perspectives, collaborate, and learn from one another. By fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect, I aim to create a classroom where students are empowered to engage deeply with their learning and with each other.
examples of action:
Collaborative Classroom Layouts:
Arrange the classroom to facilitate small-group collaborations, shared studio spaces, and critique circles, fostering an environment conducive to peer feedback and teamwork.

Active Student Participation:
Encourage meaningful student involvement by designing hands-on activities, promoting participation in critiques, and allowing students to take ownership of their creative projects.
equity
Equity is at the heart of my approach. I am committed to creating an inclusive space that recognises the unique backgrounds, strengths, and challenges of each student. This means providing differentiated instruction, accessible resources, and opportunities for every learner to succeed, being mindful that success can look different for every student.

examples of action:

Diverse Presentation:
Providing instruction through discussion, written statements, hands-on learning, and personal samples of work to accommodate for all types of learners.

Engaging Instructional Methods:
Incorporate a variety of teaching methods—such as project-based learning, interactive workshops, and live demonstrations to maintain students curiosity and engagement
respect
Above all, I strive to model and promote respect - not only for differing opinions and experiences but also for the process of learning itself. Through a respectful and inclusive classroom environment, I aim to prepare students to contribute thoughtfully and empathetically to the wider community.
examples of action:
Set Clear Classroom Norms:
Collaboratively establish guidelines with students that emphasize respect, empathy, and constructive feedback. Reinforce these norms consistently to ensure that everyone feels valued and safe in sharing their ideas.
Inclusive Discussion:
Actively model listening by acknowledging each student’s input with respect and encouraging others to do the same, fostering a safe space for diverse viewpoints.
